I don't know if anyone still thinks of this idea. but as Winterday is here... I can't help but wish I had the 'show in outpost' option for my weapon and/or offhand.
Yea, its showing off - its a roleplaying game. BUT what I am really thinking is how cool would it be to walk around with your candy weapons and pose with friends next to the wintersday tree and what nots. I know theres a lot of folks out there that love to get interesting shots and that would be pretty nice to hold the beermug looking off hand at an outpost party or hold a staff dressed in your best wintersday outfit...

The problem is, every time when you change weapons, the weapon has to load, so either the loading time is increased a lot to account for all the possible weapons that people carry with them, or there's random loading whenever someone changes their weapon. Neither of those are really desireable.
Perhaps an idea would be setting 1 set of weapons as the worn weapons, and it would not be possible to change that set except for in the guildhall or temple of balthasar, with some npc.
Obviously this would also have clipping issues with capes so it's either a cape or weapons.

as if the bragging rights of FoW-armoured, Chaos Glove-wearing monks weilding black dyed Voltaic Spears and Torment shields wouldnt grow tiresome fast, the issues with clipping, cape design covering, and longer load times in major cities (where load lag is already bad), far out weigh the desire to show off everyone epeens. However, if these issues could be proven to not happen, then i would sign it.

Well, as long as they don't collide with the capes, I don't mind it.
Shields, spears, big one-handed weapons and most double handed weapons would holster in the back and would mess with the cape, so those should not show up when the cape is shown.
Those that can be put in the belt, like wands, daggers, foci, small swords and axes cold show up anytime.

meh, sounds a little interesting but some weapons are a little big to be carrying around on a holster, lol. besides, it would take to much time and effort to implement so it's not gonna happen. no false hopes ftw =)

As I told, big weapons would have to be carried at the back, when the cape is not shown.
It wouldn't make sense otherwise, when we have weapons that have almost double the size of the smallest monks.

Getting max weapons(and armor) is easy.
The reason to get pretty weapons is only for show.

Sure I would want to show off my equipment in-town, but consider these things:
-When in-town, all other players except for you are at a lower graphical setting so that it'll lag less; the weapons on other people will just look like crap. Also animations may not even show up on the weapons such as the tormented shield which totally ruins the purpose of "showing off".
-There is likely to be large clipping issues with capes and armor; if you want the shield on the back, it'll likely be floating a ways off from the back looking absolutely ridiculous.
-Some people do not have fancy computers like the rest of us here, adding weapons has just greatly affected loading times into town.
-There is also a chance of bias when selecting groups just by what the player uses.
-When people start changing weapons, I think that may cause more lag in-town; yes I know you can do that with armor too, but switching weapons is 100x more accessible, meaning that everybody can do it multiple times within a few seconds.
-Some people like "discreetness" in their character. Some people don't use weapons according their profession and if the whole "switching weapons causing lag problem" were to be fixed by just displaying one weapon slot, an unwanted weapon can be shown and that can ruin "surprise" builds in the PvP arenas.
There's just some things that won't be good.
I'm mainly concerned for the people who have to play this game on the lowest settings, this would totally make their computers blow up.

I can never understand having weapons and never the bits of equipment for carrying them. Rangers are foul for this because they need a quiver with arrow yet it's like they're picking them out of their ***. Totally unrealistic.
I wouldn't mind if they showed players actually drawing their weapons too when they switch.

Um...Why?
No, seriously, why? How does this help the game? By letting you boost your ego via rare weapon skins? You already have titles, tonics, mini-pets, and elite armors to show off with. What more do you need?
Besides, think about it. How much lag do you have to deal with in crowded towns? With one (sometimes two) weapons per character, you'd be putting even more stress on everyone's computers. If this were implemented, everyone would start complaining about how long it takes to load towns and outposts. Keeping the game running smoothly is far more important than yet another unnecessary piece of bling.
Also, there'd be huge clipping issues. Guaranteed. The model for a male warrior is very different than that of a female monk. Put a shield on their backs and chances are it's gonna be messed up on one of the two, unless Anet specifically programs the placement of shields on each character separately. Then there's the potential clipping issues that can occur during emotes (such as dancing). Heck, there's already tons of examples of both of these on existing armor and weapons, which have gone unfixed for the game's entire history. And you think Anet is going to be able to code, implement, and test this new addition while doing all of the other stuff it has to do and not completely mess it up with regards to clipping? You're dreaming if you think that.
And then, of course, there's the time investment. Do you have any idea how long something like this would take to code? The live team has too much on their plate already. This isn't something as simple as a skill update, where you can just tweak a few numbers. This is all-new code requiring lots of time to code (never mind test), time that would have been better spent addressing the myriad of problems with gameplay and balance (you know, those things that actually matter?).
While you're at it, why don't you suggest they start making all-new weapon and armor skins? Actually, no, that would be much (much) easier to do, since it would essentially be the same thing but without half the potential clipping issues or as much added stress on people's computers.
In short, too much time, too much effort, too many potential problems, and no benefit other than giving people another way to show off that they don't need. /notsigned

/notsigned because it will cause a lot of lag for a lot of people, will encourage showing off, will encourage people saying 'omg you are a fail War cause you don't have a fellblade', and will cause a lot of graphical reworking.
